What VAT rate applies to translation work?
For Dutch clients, 21% VAT applies to translation work. For business clients in other EU countries, the reverse charge rule applies: 0% VAT with the note "VAT reverse charged". For clients outside the EU, 0% without reverse charge — simply no VAT. FactuurSturen puts the right note on the invoice automatically.
Per word or per hour — what do I put on the invoice?
Per word: word count × rate per word. Per hour: hours worked × hourly rate. Per project: one line with total project price. All work, and you can combine them in one invoice (e.g. translation per word + revision per hour).
Rush job — charge extra?
Many translators charge 25-50% rush surcharge for tight deadlines. On the invoice you can put it as a separate line — "Rush surcharge (deadline within 24h), +30%" with the amount. Client sees exactly what they pay and for what.
Translation withdrawn — money back?
If you've already delivered the work, invoice as normal. If the client cancels before delivery, your cancellation policy applies (usually: part of the work done, plus possible cancellation fee). Agree upfront and put it in your quote. For a refund, create a credit note.
