Questions copywriters often ask
Per hour, per word or per piece?
Per piece or per project gives your client clarity and you cash-flow certainty. Per hour works for open-ended work or editing. Per word is mostly used in journalism and SEO content. Many copywriters combine: fixed price per article, hourly for briefings and revisions outside that. On the invoice, list it with whichever format you agreed on.
Client uses my text but doesn't pay — what then?
First let the three automatic reminders run their course — that solves a lot. Then a personal message. If that doesn't help, you can engage a debt collector or start legal proceedings — but it's rarely worth it under €1,000. Better: ask for 50% deposit upfront from new clients, and only deliver the final text after the final invoice is paid.
Meetings and briefings — do I invoice those?
Depends on your agreement. Many copywriters include one briefing and one review meeting in the price; anything beyond that is hourly. Make it explicit in your quote so you don't have the awkward conversation afterwards. On the invoice it goes as a separate line: "Briefing meeting March 18, 1.5 hours".
