Questions yoga teachers often ask
Class card or single class — how do I invoice?
A 10-class card you invoice in one go when the student buys it — one line saying "10-class card valid through [date]". Single classes you invoice afterwards, often collected onto one monthly invoice. For memberships (fixed amount per month, unlimited classes), use a recurring invoice that goes out automatically on the first of the month.
Yoga classes: VAT-exempt or not?
For sports instruction to private individuals there's often a VAT exemption in the Netherlands, provided you meet the tax authority's requirements (no profit motive, or recognised education). For business clients (corporate yoga, in-company workshops), the standard 21% rate usually applies. When unsure: ask your accountant or the tax authority — it depends on the case.
Workshop or retreat — different pricing structure?
Workshops are usually one-off and you invoice upfront (otherwise you risk no-shows without payment). Retreats often have a deposit and a final payment — two invoices, then. For both: state clearly on the invoice what's included (classes, materials, possibly accommodation and food), with separate lines and VAT rates if appropriate.
